Advancing Collaboration on Microbial-Based Organic Waste Resource Recovery
ECO-HOPIA announced that it was named a Family Company of the Gangneung Institute of Natural Products, Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST), in November 2025.
As Korea’s first government-funded research institute and a leading multidisciplinary research organization, KIST’s designation reflects formal recognition of ECO-HOPIA’s technological capabilities and field-level expertise in organic waste resource recovery.

The Gangneung Institute of Natural Products operates its Family Company Program to strengthen the demonstration and commercialization of technologies that address on-site challenges. ECO-HOPIA was recognized as a suitable collaboration partner based on its accumulated operational experience and execution capability in organic waste resource recovery, as well as its potential to enhance implementation speed and reproducibility when combined with KIST’s foundational and applied research expertise.
Through this collaboration, the two organizations will work together to advance microbial-based process technologies using verifiable data and standardized performance indicators, with the objective of converting research outcomes into commercially deployable technology packages. Key areas of focus include anaerobic digestion (AD) and composting processes, with joint efforts directed toward improving process performance and stability, and establishing quality and safety benchmarks through research and field validation.
ECO-HOPIA expects the collaboration to strengthen technological credibility and scalability by standardizing process operation and quality management indicators. The Gangneung Institute of Natural Products aims to enhance the practical impact of its research through field-based demonstration. Together, the two organizations plan to expand microbial-based circular resource solutions across a range of industries, contributing to sustainable environmental systems and environmental risk reduction.
